Check for Understanding

Engineering Mechanics deals with the action of the forces acting on a body. There are several laws based on which the forces acting on mechanical parts are analysed. One such law deals with three forces acting at different angles. The law states that, "when three forces are in equilibrium condition, each force acting on the a body is proportional to sine of the angle between other two forces" .

Now guess the law!!!

Assume a kid sits over a chair that is hung by ropes at each end from two hinges available on a rigid link (bar or a platform). Can you identify the law behind the calculation of forces and sketch the free body diagram.
